Musa, Iheanacho return as coach Chelle picks 25 Super Eagles for Unity Cup tourney •FULL LIST

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 22, 2025 2692 Minutes read0

•Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle

Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Chelle has named a 25-man squad for the upcoming Unity Cup Tournament in London, with in-form winger Moses Simon—currently impressing in France—among the standout call-ups.

Also making the squad are goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, midfield enforcer Wilfred Ndidi, and veteran forward Ahmed Musa, reports Daily Trust.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Chelle said: “We’re excited to participate in the Unity Cup. It’s a great opportunity to assess new players in various roles and build depth in the squad ahead of our September and October fixtures.”

The coach has also included several top performers from the Nigeria Premier Football League, as he looks to blend domestic talent with established internationals.

Among them is Junior Harrison Nduka, captain of the CHAN-bound Super Eagles B and champions Remo Stars, who will compete for a defensive spot alongside Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Igoh Ogbu, and fellow home-based players Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, Sodiq Ismaila, and Waliu Ojetoye.

In midfield, Papa Daniel Mustapha, Saviour Isaac, and Collins Ugwueze will aim to impress against experienced campaigners like Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Chrisantus Uche.

The forward line is stacked with talent, as Ahmed Musa, Adamu Abubakar, and Sikiru Alimi face stiff competition from European-based stars such as Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Cyriel Dessers, Nathan Tella, Tolu Arokodare, and Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Unity Cup will be held at the 17,250-capacity Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, West London, featuring Nigeria, Jamaica, Ghana, and Trinidad & Tobago.

The tournament kicks off on Tuesday, 27th May with Trinidad & Tobago facing Jamaica in the first semi-final—the first-ever “Trini-Jam” clash on UK soil. On Wednesday, 28th May, Nigeria will meet fierce rivals Ghana in a highly anticipated showdown, renewing a 74-year football rivalry between the two West African giants.

All four teams will return to the pitch on Saturday, May 31. The third-place match will precede the grand finale, where the inaugural Unity Cup 2025 champion will be crowned.

Looking ahead, Chelle has also named a 21-man squad for a high-profile international friendly against Russia, scheduled for Friday, 6th June at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

That list features captain William Troost-Ekong, defenders Olaoluwa Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel, midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Raphael Onyedika, and forwards Victor Boniface and Sadiq Umar. Several Unity Cup players will also make the trip to Moscow, maintaining squad cohesion and building toward future qualifiers.
