Foreign varsity wants Nigerian student to graduate 2 years later than expected

•Middlesex University, Mauritius

Middlesex University, Mauritius, has said it wants a Nigerian student to graduate two years later than expected.

According to a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) yesterday, the Mauritian university

has insisted on the Nigerian student graduating in 2027 instead of 2025, reports The Guardian.

“Middlesex University, Mauritius, has insisted on a 2027 graduation date for Michael Adelani (not real name), a Nigerian law student facing academic issues at the school,” FIJ wrote, adding that the student revealed this in a telephone interview.

Adelani said during the interview that he had a Zoom meeting with Middlesex University yesterday but the officials he spoke with claimed the university wanted to see how it can support him, however, they still insisted on a 2027 graduation date.

“I find it unacceptable because I was supposed to graduate in 2025, and that’s not even possible anymore. Rather than allow me to graduate in 2026, however, they are insisting on a 2027 graduation year,” the Nigerian student told FIJ.

“Despite missing most of my classes and key assignments, the school validated the academic years I spent at home. They also insisted on full fees payment despite the circumstances. They were fully paid, yet they won’t allow me graduate in 2026.”
