How to generate e-affidavits for change of name, loss of SIM in Lagos

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 4, 2025 2091 Minutes read0

The Lagos State Judiciary has launched its electronic affidavit system, now making it mandatory for all general affidavits to be processed exclusively online via the Lagos Comis Platform.

The new policy took effect on June 1 following a directive from the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State, reports The Guardian.

The new system applies to all non-litigation affidavits, such as those for name changes, age declarations, SIM loss, and other similar personal declarations, according to an internal memo signed by Rasaq O. Davies, Deputy Chief Registrar Administration on May 23.

“I have the directive of the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State to inform you that effective from 1st of June, 2025, all General Affidavits (Affidavits for Change of Name, Loss of Sim, Declaration of Age, etc.), excluding affidavits used for Litigation at the High Court shall be generated exclusively through the Lagos Comis Platform,” the memo stated.

The platform is accessible at https://lagoscomis.lagosjudiciary.gov.ng,and guidelines on how to use the E-Affidavits platform are available on the Lagos Comis website.

To generate an e-affidavit, users should follow these steps:

1. Visit the Lagos Comis website: https://lagoscomis.lagosjudiciary.gov.ng on your browser.

2. Sign in using a valid legal email address and password.

3. On the dashboard, click ‘New Filings’ at the top right corner.

4. Select the appropriate affidavit type from the list, or choose general affidavit for a customised version.

5. Complete the form with accurate information, upload a passport photograph, and click “Create Affidavit.”

6. Various paragraphs will show up; click the three dots on the right side of each one to edit it. You can enter more information by clicking “Paragraph,” “Sub Paragraph,” or “Sub Sub Paragraph.”

6. After entering, click the icon to save.

7. Click “Cancel” to go back and fix any errors; otherwise, click “Done.”

8. A notification confirming the successful saving of your affidavit will be sent to you. Next, select “Ok.”

9. To complete the payment process, click “Proceed to Payment” after entering your complete name, phone number, and email address.

10. Select “Upload Video” to add videos of deponent identification, and select “Upload Signature” to add an electronic signature.
