Former APC national chairman joins ADC, slams Tinubu’s leadership

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 16, 2025 3682 Minutes read0

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Oyegun, has officially become a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

‎‎The Edo State chairman of the ADC, Kennedy Odion, handed Oyegun his party membership card yesterday at the party’s headquarters in Benin City, reports Daily Independent.

‎‎During the presentation, Odion highlighted Oyegun’s history of building political alliances.

‎‎“He has put together what is called a coalition before, and he succeeded. So, in mathematics, once you understand the formula, the answer is in view. So, he understands how he did it before, so doing it again is not a difficult task.”

‎‎Odion also emphasised the significance of Oyegun’s role in the party’s plans.

‎‎“He was the chairman of the implementation committee that decided that ADC would be the platform. So as God may have it, he is not from any other state but from the heartbeat of this nation, Edo State, and we are moving the coalition together.”

‎‎Speaking on his decision, Oyegun explained that before choosing ADC, they held thorough consultations with multiple political groups.

‎‎“We talked to a lot of parties, about seven. Up till the very last minute. We made a report and we said ADC. And some said, ‘No, no, no, you must still talk to this, you must still talk to that…So, we delayed the decision for another fortnight.

‎‎“At the end of our meeting, we still came back. I said, ‘Yes, what you asked us to do, we’ve done. We’ve talked to the others, but we have not seen a party as dedicated as the ADC.”

‎‎Oyegun did not hold back in criticising his former party. He blamed the APC-led government for the country’s rising hunger and worsening insecurity, particularly in Benue and other parts of the nation. According to him, Nigeria is more divided today than it has ever been under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

‎‎He also dismissed claims that the ADC is plotting to destabilise the government, accusing those spreading such rumours of trying to undermine the coalition’s true goal, which he says is to rescue the country.

‎‎The former APC chairman concluded by expressing confidence in the ADC’s growth, claiming that many more prominent politicians are set to join soon.

‎‎“So, from a month ago, you were just ADC. Today, one can say we are the largest party in this nation. We are growing by the day, we are growing by the week. We are growing by the month. It’s still ADC, but ADC is now a mix of the best of the PDP and the APC. More are still coming on the way,” he said.
