President Bola Tinubu has subsidised the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals, slashing the price from N50,000 to N12,000, representing a 76% price reduction.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, announced the new policy in a statement released yesterday.

According to the aide, this price reduction will bring relief to thousands of Nigerians batting kidney-related diseases across the country.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark subsidy to ease the cost of idney dialysis for Nigerians. With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from N50,000 to just 12,000,” the statement read.

Bwala added that the new pricing is already being implemented in ten major federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across the country.

He also noted that the federal government has plans to widen access nationwide before the year ends by adding more federal hospitals to the list.

The following is a list of the ten federal medical centres and teaching hospitals the new pricing is being implemented in:

Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja

University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan

Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri

University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri

Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta

Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos

Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare

University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin

University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar
