Dangote truck driver, 2 others block highway, demand for compensation from govt as truck tyres burst

•Dangote truck and others block the highway

In a dramatic turn of events last night, three heavy trucks traveling on the Potiskum-Damaturu highway in front of the new Potiskum Modern Market experienced tyre bursts after running over bolts fixed by the federal construction firm in the middle of the highway.

The drivers of the trucks, including one belonging to Dangote, subsequently blocked the road, causing significant inconvenience to motorists, reports Daily Independent.

Causes and Consequences of the Tyre Bursts

The tyre bursts were a direct result of the trucks running over the bolts on the highway meant to tie the pedestrian by the company constructing the Morden Market.

Drivers refused to open the road despite pleas from authorities including officials of Potiskum Local Government Council, citing demands for compensation for their losses.

One of the drivers who gave his name as Abubakar Hassan told our correspondent at the scene that, “they just fixed long sharp bolts on the middle of the highway without any sign, we unknowingly stepped on the bolts, three of my tyres bursted, the one in front of me too loss two tyres while the third one loss six tyres. We parked to repair the tyres while calling on the Local and State government to look into it and offer some assistance to us.”

Efforts by the Vice Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area to convince the drivers to open the road proved unsuccessful.

Security agencies including the Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were deployed to the scene to maintain peace and order.
