Violence erupts at APC rally as gunmen invade venue •Many injured, vehicles vandalised

•The botched APC rally

An All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kafin-Hausa, Jigawa State, ended in violence yesterday after unidentified men carrying weapons invaded the venue, leaving several people injured and vehicles vandalised.

The rally, held at Kafin-Hausa Town Hall, was organised by community members in honour of Alhaji Zakari Sidi Kafin-Hausa, a former Special Adviser to Governor Sule Lamido on Community Engagements, reports The Guardian.

The gathering also served as a platform to express support for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 elections.

The event was attended by the APC National Financial Secretary, Bashir Gumel, members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly representing Hadejia, Gagarawa and Babura constituencies, as well as 14 former local government chairmen, including a former ALGON chairman, Bala Usman Chamo.

Alhaji Sidi, speaking after the incident, described the attack as “unprovoked,” saying that the rally had been rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday to avoid tension but was still disrupted. “They descended on us to attack our supporters, injured many innocent people, and vandalised their properties,” he said.

Efforts to reach the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Lawan Shiisu Adam, for comment were unsuccessful, as his mobile lines were unavailable at the time of filing this report.

The disruption is the first recorded incident of violence at a parallel APC rally in the state.

Party leaders present at the event commended the Kafin-Hausa community for recognising Alhaji Sidi’s contributions, while reiterating their commitment to supporting the party’s national leadership.
