2027: Former President Buhari’s justice minister, Malami declares for governorship race

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.

Malami who worked as minister under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, confirmed his decision in an interview with DCL Hausa today.

He expressed confidence of having widespread support across the state.

“INEC guidelines do not allow us to begin mobilisation yet, but when the time comes, you will see that we have the support of the people of Kebbi State,” he said.

“I have agreed to contest, and there is no retreat. God willing, we are going to win because we have people who believe in us.”

The former AGF criticised the current administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying policies under the party have contributed to economic hardship, especially in the northern region.

He noted that insecurity has pushed many farmers away from their farmlands, adding that rice mills operating for decades have shut down due to “bad policies that favour foreign companies.”

Malami said his decision to run was driven by a commitment to address insecurity, revive agriculture and protect the interests of Kebbi residents.

The politician defected to African Democratic Congress (ADC) earlier this year and has been identifying with leaders of the coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
