I’m a feminist but I don’t support disrespect in marriage – Star actress Funke Akindele

Renowned filmmaker Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele, Popularly known as ‘Funke Akindele’ has reaffirmed her stance as a feminist, clarifying that her advocacy does not condone disrespect toward husbands.

In a recently surfaced video, Akindele shared insights on feminism, emphasising that it is about fairness, respect, and doing what is right rather than disregarding a spouse’s position in a marriage, reports Daily Independent.

“I’m a feminist but I don’t support a woman disrespecting her husband. Make sure you do what is right,” she stated.

She highlighted the importance of men treating women with dignity, stating that women should not be viewed as inferior. Additionally, she stressed the significance of financial independence for women, noting that economic empowerment allows them to contribute to their families and maintain autonomy.

“I believe that we are not the weaker gender. Men are supposed to treat women specially with respect. Also men should not feel a woman belongs to the kitchen and talked to anyhow.

“We women are strong, and bold. Our economic power is very important, that is why we should make sure we have the power and protect the power so we can support our husbands.”

Encouraging women to be courageous and self-sufficient, Akindele also underscored the necessity of fostering relationships built on mutual respect.
