Commuters stranded in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway traffic jam

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 17, 2025 2121 Minutes read0

•Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A major traffic jam brought movement to a halt on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway today, leaving motorists stuck for hours as gridlock spread across both the inbound and outbound lanes.

The standstill extended from the Alausa Expressway down to the Fatgbems/OPIC roundabout for those heading toward Mowe while motorists travelling into Lagos were trapped from the Long Bridge to the same roundabout.

The heavy congestion is traced to a crash at the New Garage area, where two vehicles went up in flames and were completely burnt to ashes, reports The PUNCH.

The accident, however, caused a major obstruction, worsening an already tense traffic situation.

Speaking with our correspondent, Adeleke Dada lamented being held in traffic for two hours from Berger to the Magboro axis of the expressway.

Dada stated, “The traffic was something else. The journey that was supposed to be about 7 minutes lasted over two hours. I was at a point for two hours.”

Also speaking, Opeyemi Alofe said, “I met the traffic at Otedola Bridge. On getting to Berger new garage, I realised there was an accident. Though it was not in my lane, the accident extended to my lane.”

This is, however, not the first time passengers have been held in traffic for long hours along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In August, many passengers were trapped in a traffic gridlock along the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.

The traffic began shortly after the Sagamu Interchange and stretched beyond the old Ogere tollgate area, leaving many stranded on both sides of the highway.
