INSIDE AKWA IBOM TODAY- Amazing outcome of vision: Gov Umo Eno creates a spectacular, world-class tourism magnet out of a forsaken wasteland, By Emma Akpabio

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 15, 2026 1581 Minutes read0

•Governor Umo Eno

Once a vast expanse of ravines and erosion-ravaged land in Uyo, the area now known as ARISE Palm Resort is emerging as Nigeria’s most ambitious and transformative tourism developments.

Originally conceived as ARISE Park, the resort has become a striking symbol of environmental recovery, visionary leadership and economic reinvention under the administration of Governor Umo Bassey Eno.

Land long considered unsafe and unusable due to severe gully erosion has been deliberately reclaimed and reimagined into a world-class tourism and leisure destination, redefining the possibilities of urban renewal.

A flagship project of the governor’s ARISE Agenda, the resort spans a vast landscape and offers premium, international-standard facilities which include; artificial lakes with floating bars and boat access, luxury villas and guest accommodations, swimming pools, expansive leisure parks, restaurants and cafés, commercial outlets, banquet halls and high-end event spaces.

Its sports and recreation facilities which come with a standard football pitch, further enhance its appeal, positioning the resort as a comprehensive hub for leisure and entertainment.

Designed as a family-oriented luxury destination, ARISE Palm Resort seamlessly integrates hospitality, recreation and relaxation, catering to families, tourists, business travelers and corporate events, while serving as a major attraction for both local and international visitors.

Beyond its leisure value, the resort is expected to deliver significant economic benefits through job creation and increased commercial activity, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises and strengthening the local economy. Strategically, it also complements Akwa Ibom’s aviation ambitions by serving as a key hospitality asset for the Victor Attah International Airport, enhancing the state’s appeal to global travelers.

The national importance of the project has drawn commendation, with Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development describing the resort as “mind-blowing” and highlighting its strategic relevance to tourism and air travel growth.

From a once-dangerous ravine to a beacon of opportunity, ARISE Palm Resort stands as a testament to purposeful governance, environmental renewal and economic foresight, firmly positioning Akwa Ibom as a rising destination in Nigeria’s tourism landscape.
