FCT council elections: PDP firmly in race in all 6 Area Councils – Party professionals confirm

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 21, 2026 701 Minutes read0

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) professionals under the aegis of Conference of Professionals in the PDP (CP-PDP) have confirmed that the party is fully in the race for today, Saturday, February 21, 2026, Council elections in Bwari and all other Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The PDP professionals said that this statement serves to clarify and debunk speculations currently circulating on social media.

CP-PDP, in a statement by its Protem National Coordinator, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu said, “for the avoidance of doubt, the PDP is fielding candidates for both Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in Bwari, as well as the five other Area Councils: Abaji, AMAC, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali. The party has not withdrawn from any contest, contrary to rumours being peddled by agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“For emphasis, under the fundamental principles of our democratic process, it is the Party that is on the ballot and in the contest by sponsoring candidates, rather than the individual. Regardless of external claims, the CP-PDP confirms that there is no official correspondence from any PDP candidate indicating a withdrawal from any of the Area Council elections.

“In light of this, the CP-PDP urges all party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard these baseless rumours and come out en masse to exercise their franchise and support for the PDP.

“We urge our members to stay focused, remain peaceful, cast their votes, and monitor the process until its conclusion. It is the party that is on the ballot, and it is the party that will bring the desired dividends of democracy back to the people.”
