2027 elections: Muslim-Muslim ticket can’t guarantee victory for Tinubu in the North – SDP presidential candidate Adebayo

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 15, 2026 272 Minutes read0

•Adebayo and Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has said that Muslim-Muslim ticket can’t guarantee victory for President Bola Tinubu in the North in the 2027 general elections, saying that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-rufai cannot get justice from the Muslim-Muslim ticket he once celebrated.

Adebayo, who spoke on Arise TV yesterday, noted that what’s expected of a Muslim leader is justice, which according to him, Tinubu and Kashim Shettima lack.

He maintained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won’t be better off fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

According to him, there’s nothing like a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“Even when the contraption was brought up four years ago, I was in Kano, mingling with the Ulamas. I told them that if they were hoping for a Muslim-Muslim ticket for President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima, they’d be lucky to even have a single Muslim out of the two.

“It turns out that it’s not a Muslim-Muslim ticket. From the point of view of Muslims in Nigeria, it’s a zero-zero ticket, because what’s expected in Islamic jurisprudence from a leader is justice. The reason Muslims get involved in politics is to have a just society.

“There are guidelines in Islamic jurisprudence regarding politics. In Islam, it’s expected that if you’re a good Muslim, you won’t give public office or responsibility to anyone who isn’t fit for that. You look among yourselves for the most suitable person, most competent person.

“Secondly, you don’t give power based on favoritism or bias. Again, you don’t give power based on expectation of reward.

“The whole concept from the beginning was just to defraud the populace by using religious sentiment. What the North, Muslims, Nigerians are looking for is a righteous leader, no matter that person’s religion. Because the fruits of righteousness will make the people of that country rejoice.

“So when you say you’re a Muslim-Muslim ticket, and there’s no justice anywhere, even one of the proponents, an advocate of Muslim-Muslim ticket who was celebrating it, El-rufai, he and his family are now crying for justice. That’s the biggest irony. Nobody was more of a supporter of Muslim-Muslim ticket, celebrating it after the victory than El-rufai. Right now, he can’t get justice under his so-called Muslim-Muslim ticket.”

He maintained that there’s no support for Muslim-Muslim ticket anywhere, stressing that even if people are looking for Muslims in authority, the president and his vice don’t symbolise that.

“They symbolise the opposite. They’re actually what the prophet and all the leaders of Islam warn Muslims against leadership where there’s no truth, where there’s no honesty, where there’s no kindness and charity.”
