Clergy laments weak security in Southwest, urges region’s governors to wake up

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 12, 2026 225 Minutes read0

•Prophet Sam Olu

The Planter of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Adamimogo Grace of Prayer Mountain world-wide, Prophet Sam Olu Alo, has expressed concern about the growing insecurity, particularly in the southwest, describing the region as having the weakest security arrangement in Nigeria .

Sharing his thoughts on issues bothering on insecurities in Nigeria, Olu-Alo argued that Nigerian laws are too weak to deal with these criminals, reports Daily Independent.

While calling for an overhaul on amendment of the Nigeria constitution, the church leader also said ” the weakness with our Law in punishing kidnappers has emboldened to stay on the crime.

“As Nigerians we don’t want a radical change in our constitution but there is an urgent need to amend our constitution to tackle the current challenges we have and one of such challenges is kidnapping.

“We can accept that there are people acting as sponsors for these kidnappers. And the news reports of such are all over the place . But it is not only big men in Nigeria that are assisting these people poor men or ordinary Nigerians too are doing it. What do you say of someone who is getting food for them ? Isn’t such a person culpable? ”

Prophet Olu-Alo said the South-West governors were not proactive enough to contain the incursion of bandits and kidnappers in the region .

“The weakest point for security in Nigeria is the South West. In the north where these terrorists are operating there is desert everywhere and that allows security forces to get them but here in the South, we have thick forests that makes it hard for drones and helicopters to trace these people from their hideouts.

“But this doesn’t mean we can’t defeat them because we have to work collectively to do this. Our current challenge is that we are yet to devise a means or solution to the problem of these people invading the South West.

“And it seems we are just afraid to tackle these new phases of terrorism. The kidnapping has become business because of the ransom that these people demand and which the victims must get for them.

“If the governors in the South West and others, have been using the wisdom of God more for what they are doing, we wouldn’t be where we are today .

“About four years ago, people like Gani Adams and Chief Sunday lgboho said they suspected that these terrorists would come to the South West . They said they wrote letters to the authorities about this but many criticised them saying they were only making noise for selfish reasons. Meanwhile, these people are to be supported. Our leaders here are supposed to let them unite and work together against terrorism.

“The heart of the matter is that, as God gives us men of God revelation in this country, those with great knowledge have been rendered useless and this is as a result of the reality of what I call the weeds among the seeds.

“Terrorism in Nigeria has become business to some powerful people. You would recall that Nigeria had a pact with the U.S. government, and that the pact has been causing serious harm to terrorism in Nigeria. But those evil people are now migrating to alternative spots that are yet to be well secured to unleash terror.

“We should not be afraid because terrorism is being dealt with seriously. We should realize that as the government forces are dealing with them at their base in the north, they would migrate to areas that are not flash points. Why we are having the surge in south west and south east is because the security forces were yet to establish their presence in these parts of the country fully.

“The developed nations where they now use technology to secure their people, had issues of insecurity like we are having now before but over the time, they surmounted it because they had the will to do it. Those we need to fix Nigeria are not politicians but true leaders. Sadly, a politician is not necessarily a leader. Politicians who are Nigerian only make promises that they never fulfill. Leaders ensure that the deliver their promises.

“In Nigeria, we also have an unfortunate situation where leaders have been choked by politicians who don’t want to allow good things to happen.

“When we want to give a house in rent to people, we must ensure they have the wherewithal to pay the rent. But here , you have agents who collect huge money to get tenants they don’t even know from Adam, and such people may turn out to be agents of evil. But because we only want the money we care less about who the tenant is. This is one of the ways we cause problems of insecurity for ourselves.

“In the South East, they seem well prepared to use their local hunters and youths to deal with terrorism and kidnapping, but we don’t seem to be doing that here in the South West, what is your take sir?

“In the South East we can see that their people have united to wage war against terrorism. But here in the south west, we are not united. We are divided. We allow religion to divide us and not allow us to focus on reality. As for terrorism, we need our hunters and people who have the means to deal with the situation. This is different from using religion to divide people. In lsreal, every one is trained to fight and they have forces whose duty is to fight terrorism. They are not depending on religion to fight terrorism.

“My opinion is that those who can tackle this current upsurge or insecurity in the South are the local hunters. I believe in them because I know that they can tackle this problem. Moreso, dealing with insecurity is a collective responsibility. We can decide to inform the security forces about any suspicious movements or acts of anyone we notice. This will help in curbing insecurity.

“To rescue the kidnap victims of Oyo we must be careful. This is why the government is asking for patience. And for security forces, we cannot expect them to reveal all their strategies. Our government should regulate our social media space as part of the measures to deal with insecurity.”
