Abia govt begins enforcement of centralised transport system in Umuahia

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 17, 2026 400 Minutes read0

•Governor Alex Otti of Abia State

The Abia State government has commenced the enforcement of its newly introduced centralised transport system in Umuahia, marking a major step in its efforts to improve orderliness, traffic management, and public transportation within the state capital.

As part of the initiative, transport operators have begun a phased relocation to the newly established Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, reports The Guardian.

The relocation exercise is aimed at streamlining transport operations, reducing congestion in key parts of the city, and providing commuters with a more organised and secure transit environment. Government officials say the centralised system will also enhance monitoring of transport activities and improve service delivery across the state’s transportation sector.

Authorities have urged transport unions, operators, and residents to cooperate with the transition process, assuring stakeholders that the move is designed to create a more efficient and modern transport network.

The enforcement is expected to continue in phases as the government works towards fully integrating transport activities into the Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal.
