National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki SAN has made a case for the overhauling and restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture to make it more responsive to the security needs of Nigerians.

Turaki made the suggestion when he led a high powered delegation on a sympathy visit to the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago over last Friday’s abduction of pupils and staff of Papiri Catholic primary and secondary schools, Agwara, reports Daily Independent.

The PDP chieftain who expressed regrets that terrorism is now big business that must be checked before it destroys the very foundation of Nigeria and the government in power argued that securing lives and properties of every Nigerian can only be achieved through collaborative efforts of all.

He expressed regrets that Nigerians can no longer move freely from one part of the country to another, pointing out that, “Boko-Haram, Armed Bandits, ISWAP or other militant groups are now serious threats to this country, and only collaborative efforts can end their reign”.

The PDP national chairman who prayed God’s intervention for the safe return of the victims said, “We feel what you feel, and we are with you at this challenging moment, we will support you in whatever way we can to ensure that there’s peace and progress”.

Though an opposition party, Turaki who commended the governor for the steps so far taken to rescue the victims told his host that members of the PDP are also Nigerians compassionately sharing same feelings and compassion over their missing wards.

Responding, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago commended Tanimu Turaki for leading the PDP National Working Committee on the visit to sympathise with the government and people of Niger state in their trying moment.

Governor Bago who described the visit as a show of humanity, solidarity and commitments to democracy, called on all Nigerians to rise up and protect democratic norms as it is being threatened by the activities of criminal elements especially in northern parts of the country.
