A combined force of police officers, soldiers, and other security agents yesterday raided an abandoned hospital in Iso-Bendeghe village, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, in a major operation following an attack on a police outpost by suspected hoodlums.
The swift action, ordered by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua, and led on the ground by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Boki Division, resulted in the recovery of a cache of weapons and other incriminating items, reports Nigerian Tribune.
Among the seized materials were five locally made firearms, expended cartridges, machetes, clubs, motorcycles, cooking utensils, bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages, dangerous charms, and other personal effects.
Confirming the incident in a statement today, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Irene Ugbo, said the operation was launched after suspected armed men attacked the 75 PMF Patrol Team at Iso-Bendeghe around 11:45 p.m. on August 5, 2025.
According to the PPRO, the assailants who fled into the nearby forest after the assault, had been camping in the area. The attack left a police operational vehicle and other property destroyed.
“The raid into the forest was part of a continued pursuit of the perpetrators, who are strongly suspected to be behind the violence that rocked Iso-Bendeghe last month,” Ugbo stated, adding that soldiers from the 245 Battalion in Ikom participated in the operation.
She disclosed that the hoodlums abandoned their belongings and melted into the bush upon sighting the advancing security team.
Reaffirming the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on attacks against security personnel, Ugbo assured residents of their safety, urging them to go about their normal activities without fear, as robust security measures have been reinforced in the area.
