Armed robbers on the prowl in Ondo, kill 2 Okada riders, snatch 3 bikes

•Okada riders

Motorbike snatchers are on the prowl again in Ondo State as they have successfully snatched three commercial motorbikes (Okada), leaving two among their victims dead.

In Akoko area of the state, the armed snatchers attacked a popular Okada rider Dada Jatto, at Iyani-Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area, and escaped with his motorcycle.

The 28-year-old Dada was declared missing for the past three days, but his mutilated body was found yesterday along Okeagbe Road, close to Arigidi, where he was dumped by his attackers.

His telephone set was also found on the spot, though damaged, but his motorcycle was missing.

Another similar incident happened in the same axis as some motorcycle snatchers lured another Okada rider to their hideout along Ikare/Arigidi road.

They hit him on the head with a sledge hammer and went away with his motorbike.

But the victim, who is from the northern part of the country, was able to describe one of his attackers to security agents before he gave up the ghost in the hospital.

Moreover, luck ran against his assailant as vigilant security agents arrested the attacker he described with his snatched motorbike at Akunu-Akoko, a border town of Ondo State with Kogi State.

Another incident happened last night at Fayanju Street, Leo area of Akure, where two passengers on a bike attacked and hit the rider with a pestle on the head.

Before the people living in the area, who saw the incident could raise the alarm, the robbers had escaped with the motorbike.

The assailants dumped the pestle with which they hit the victim on the spot

The victim disclosed that the motorbike was yellow branded MAXIOKADA.

Residents of the area revealed that criminals usually exploited the darkness to operate in the street.

They said there’s a need for at least two solar street lamps to laminate the street to forestall recurrence of criminal activities in the area.

Meanwhile residents of Iyani-Akoko are currently mourning over the untimely death of Dada Jatto, a father of two.

They described the deceased as a highly diligent and hardworking young man.

The spokesperson of the state Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a Superintendent of Police(SP) confirmed the incidents.
