Arsenal’s Nwaneri set for loan move to Marseille

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 20, 2026 831 Minutes read0

•Ethan Nwaneri

Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri is set to join Olympique Marseille on loan for the remainder of the 2025‑26 season, with the deal reported to be in its final stages.

The move is expected to be a straight loan, with no buy option included.

Fabrizio Romano posted on X today that the 17-year-old midfielder has held positive discussions with Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi, while Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has been closely involved in orchestrating the move. Both clubs see Marseille as an ideal environment for Nwaneri to gain first-team experience at a high level.

“Ethan Nwaneri has accepted to join Olympique Marseille! Arsenal also believes it’s the best solution on loan. Arteta also spoke with Roberto de Zerbi, and OM is seen as the ideal solution. Straight loan deal at final stages, no buy option clause, expected to be agreed soon,” Romano’s post read.

Arsenal view the loan as the best solution for the young talent’s development, prioritising regular playing time in a competitive league over keeping him on the bench in the Premier League.

The deal is expected to be finalised soon, allowing Nwaneri to link up with his new teammates and continue his progression in Ligue 1.
