BREAKING: 4-year-old baby, mother, 12 others narrowly escape death as commercial bus tumbles on Lagos road

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 18, 2026 1110 Minutes read0

A four-year-old boy, his mother, and 12 other passengers narrowly escaped death today after a fully laden Mazda commercial bus (AKD 509 XL) overturned along Coaster Road, opposite Lafiaji inward Okun Ajah, Lagos.

Eyewitnesses described the crash as severe, with the vehicle somersaulting violently before coming to rest on its side, trapping passengers in the wreckage.

Many bystanders called the survival of the young boy, his mother, and others “divine intervention,” reports Vanguard.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel promptly arrived at the scene, extricating the injured and coordinating urgent medical evacuations. The child, his mother, and two other casualties were rushed to Mother and Child Hospital, Abraham Adesanya, while other injured passengers were taken to nearby healthcare facilities with the help of Good Samaritans.

The cause of the accident remains unknown. The matter has been handed over to the Abraham Adesanya Police Division for investigation.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, expressed sympathy to the victims and their families and urged commercial vehicle operators to avoid reckless driving. He called on all motorists to maintain discipline on the roads and prioritise human life.
