CAF cup campaigners return to Nigerian Premier Football League as Abia Warriors host Remo Stars today

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 2, 2025 1021 Minutes read0

•Abia Warriors FC

Abia Warriors will host Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, today, in a potentially explosive encounter after their CAF inter-club exertions at the weekend.

Abia Warriors, who played in the CAF Confederation Cup, were knocked out of the competition in the first round by Djoliba of Mali, while Remo Stars, in their third foray into the CAF Champions League overcame US Zilimadjou of Comoros Island 5-1 to move to the second round of the championship.

Now with their attention shifting to the local scene, the teams are back to search for the points that will lift them up on the league ladder, reports The Guardian.

Abia Warriors, which finished third in the league last season to qualify for their first continental championship, are currently placed 13th on the 20-team log with six points, but they have played two games less than the others in the six-week old competition.

Remo Stars, which have also played four games, are in the 10th position on seven points and a win will shoot them up to third with 10 points.

In another rescheduled game in Ilorin, Kwara United, which also crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup by losing to Ghana’s Asante Kotoko 5-3 on aggregate, will host Plateau United.

Like Abia Warriors and Remo Stars, Kwara United have played only four games. They will move from the 16th spot to ninth is they defeat Plateau United today.

Nasarawa United currently lead the table with 13 points after six games, with Enyimba (12 points), Rivers United (11 points) Niger Tornadoes (nine points) and Katsina United (nine points) second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Rivers United defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in another rescheduled game in Port Harcourt yesterday to move to the third position on the log.
