Colleagues beat varsity guard to death

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 19, 2025 2481 Minutes read0

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a security guard, Ebube Igboke, allegedly beaten to death by his colleagues at the Permanent Site of Ebonyi State University.

Igboke, a native of Ezzama in Ezza South Local Government Area, was a member of a security outfit contracted by the university for security services, reports The PUNCH.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, told our correspondent today that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.

“They claimed to have caught someone stealing at EBSU’s Permanent Site and decided to take matters into their own hands. The victim was beaten and later taken to the police station, but officers directed them to rush him to the hospital. Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead upon arrival,” Ukandu said.

Following the incident, the deceased’s family has petitioned the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, demanding justice.

In the petition, signed by their lawyer, D. I. Njoku, the family alleged that Igboke was brutally assaulted and his lifeless body was later transported to the state police headquarters by his killers.

They also claimed that his fiancée, Oluomachi, who also works with the security outfit, was prevented from taking him to the hospital when she was informed of the attack.

The family has called on authorities to ensure that those responsible for Igboke’s death are brought to book.
