Community sends SOS to Rivers Police as cultists lay siege, kill 2

Suspected cultists, who stormed a kingdom in Ahoada communities, in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, have continued their rampage in the area, killing two more persons, yesterday.

The cultists who resumed hostility in the Edeoha community and its neighbouring communities had on Sunday killed four people and caused panic in the area, reports Vanguard.

The area which is marked for cult-related activities has remained known for the murder of the former Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Ahoada Police, Bako Anghashim.

However, reports say the fully armed youths resumed their reign of terror in the area yesterday morning, killing two persons at Odiokwu junction in Ula-Ehuda, Igbu Akoh-Kingdon, Ahoada East LGA of the state.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of Igbu-Akoh Kingdom, Hector Ekakita, disclosed that on Sunday night, residents observed the movement of some persons dressed in coveralls and military wear, only for natives to wake up, yesterday to see the dead bodies of two youths riddled with bullets.

Hector regretted that the killing was coming barely 20 hours after five persons were killed in the Edeoha community, calling on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha to as a matter of urgency strengthen the security of the area as the remnants of cult groups have invaded the communities again.

He said: “At Odiokwu junction, early this morning, we saw the remains of two able-bodied youths riddled with a bullet. We don’t know them, this is happening barely 24 hours after four people were killed at Edeoha.

“Last night, we saw some youths moving about the company in an overall, blue colour. Some of them were wearing army raincoats. We don’t know whether they are the ones who carried out the shooting.

“We thought that insecurity in our community is a thing of the past, we don’t know that some of the remnants have woken up again to disturb the peace of the community.

“We are calling on the new CP to swing into action. Just within a week, we have lost seven persons.”

He appealed to the youth of the council to lay down their arms and allow peace to reign, noting that the community was troubled.

The development as gathered has heightened tension in the council as some natives have started fleeing.

Meantime, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, could not confirm the killing of the duo.
