The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of nine bodies along the Wawa-Lumma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were suspected to have been killed by bandits while travelling along the route, reports Channels TV.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement today.
According to him, the police and military tactical teams were mobilised to the scene following information received yesterday about the discovery of the bodies.
He said the security teams recovered the corpses and evacuated them from the area.
SP Abiodun added that clearance operations had been intensified along the route and surrounding areas to prevent further attacks and secure the area against security threats.
The latest incident has heightened concerns over the security situation along the Wawa-Lumma axis, particularly the vulnerability of travellers using the route.
