Delta commissioner suspended indefinitely for allegedly fighting governor’s aide in public

•Suspended commissioner, Izeze Reuben

The Delta State government has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Izeze Reuben.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu, the Delta State government said the suspension would allow security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into allegations linking the commissioner to the recent assault of the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun.

The incident at the PTI reportedly occurred during a political gathering at the institute, where Mudi was attacked and beaten, sustaining injuries in the process, reports Channels TV.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, which led to the alleged assault and those involved, are now subject to investigation by the appropriate security authorities.

Mudi, who serves as an aide to the Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, was reportedly injured during the altercation, prompting concerns over the circumstances surrounding the incident and calls for a thorough investigation.

The Delta State government, in the statement, stressed that the suspension of the commissioner is intended to allow the security agencies to carry out their investigation without interference and to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

It emphasised that the state government remains committed to ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order, and protecting the sanctity of human lives.

According to the Delta State government, this commitment applies in all circumstances, including situations involving institutions and officials of the state.
