DIA gets court order to detain policeman, 19 others for terrorism

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 28, 2024 2250 Minutes read0

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has approved the request of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to detain an Assistant Superintendent of Police and 19 others for 30 days over their alleged involvement in banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.

Justice Peter Lifu granted the request of the defence agency to detain ASP A. A Babangida alongside other suspects for 30 days to enable DIA operatives to carry out a thorough investigation into their alleged involvement in the heinous crimes, reports Channels TV.

The serving police officer, who was arrested in June 2024 and had since been in DIA custody, was alleged to have been helping Boko Haram, bandits and ISWAP members in carrying out terrorism activities in some parts of the country.

Justice Peter Lifu issued the detention order while delivering a ruling in an ex-parte application brought before the Court by DIA.

Counsel for the security agency, S.A Aminu, while arguing the ex-parte application, requested the court’s permission to detain the suspects for 90 days.
