Dog discovers baby boy abandoned in Anambra forest

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 4, 2024 3131 Minutes read0

A dog allegedly foraging for food retrieved an abandoned baby boy in a forest in Abagana, located in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A source informed our correspondent that the stray dog carried the infant across a busy road and placed it in a public area, seemingly hoping for passersby to notice and rescue the baby, reports Nigerian Tribune.

The source stated, “The dog found the baby in a plastic bag that had been abandoned in the forest. Based on our observations, it seems the baby may have been left in the forest for about two days before the dog discovered him.”

“The baby is in good condition; he is stable,” the source informed our correspondent.

A video circulating online supports our source’s account. In the video, some women, presumably local midwives, were seen cleansing the baby while condemning the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

The women, along with a male voice behind the camera, expressed disbelief at how someone could carry a baby for nine months only to abandon the baby.

While expressing gratitude to God for saving the baby from potential harm by animals, they urged individuals who find themselves in such situations to hand over babies to people who can care for them instead of abandoning them.

As of the time of filing this report, our correspondent was unable to obtain a reaction from the police. Calls made to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, were unsuccessful.

He has yet to respond to the WhatsApp message sent by our correspondent regarding this matter.
