Enugu honours Iwuanyanwu, cancels monthly clean-up

The Enugu State Waste Management Authority has cancelled the monthly clean-up exercise that was scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

A statement today by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water and Waste, Andreas Gebauer, said the cancellation was due to the state-wide funeral rites in honour of the late President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

The statement partly read, “The Enugu State Waste Management Authority has cancelled the state monthly clean-up exercise, which was scheduled to hold on Saturday.

“The cancellation was due to the state-wide funeral rites in honour of the late President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, scheduled to be held the same Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Enugu.”

ESWAMA, however, advised “Ndi Enugu to always keep their environment clean and bag their waste properly before disposal to make the evacuation easier for the evacuators,” adding that “all inconveniences regarding the Clean Up cancellation are highly regretted.”

It was earlier reported that the funeral rites for Iwuanyanwu, the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, will commence on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, while he will be buried on November 1, 2024.

His death was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by his son, Jide: “Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness. He was aged 82.”

In September, the chairman of the Central Burial Committee, Senator Ben Obi, announced that the deceased would receive full funeral rites in an exceptional burial ceremony.
