Vision is one of the most important senses for a child’s development. From the moment they open their eyes, children begin to learn about the world around them. Proper vision care is essential to ensure that children can grow, learn, and experience life to the fullest.

WHY VISION CARE IS IMPORTANT
Children rely heavily on their vision for learning and development. Approximately 80% of what children learn in school is presented visually. Good vision is vital for reading, writing, and interacting with their environment.
Vision problems can lead to learning difficulties, behavioral issues, and a decrease in self-esteem. Early detection and treatment of vision issues are necessary to a children’s overall development and academic success.
COMMON VISION PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN
Eye problems in children can be grouped into four major groups viz:
1. Refractive errors: These include myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. Refractive errors can often be corrected with glasses or contact lenses.
2. Strabismus (Crossed Eyes): This condition occurs when the eyes do not align properly. Early treatment can prevent the development of amblyopia (lazy eye).
3. Amblyopia (Lazy Eye): Amblyopia occurs when one eye is weaker than the other, leading to poor vision in the affected eye. Treatment may include patching the stronger eye to encourage the use of the weaker eye.
4. Convergence insufficiency: This is a condition where the eyes do not work together while focusing on a nearby object, leading to eye strain and difficulty reading.
5. Color blindness: Difficulty in distinguishing between certain colors, which can impact learning and daily activities.
