FG, stakeholders back establishment of National Polytechnics Commission

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 8, 2024 2741 Minutes read0

•Sani Gwarzo

After several years of indecision, the federal government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and other stakeholders in the polytechnic sector, yesterday agreed to the establishment of a National Polytechnics Commission to promote academic standards in the sector.

The permanent secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Sani Gwarzo, who spoke on behalf of the ministry at a public hearing of the House of Representatives on a Bill to establish the National Polytechnics Commission, said the commission would take over proper regulations of the sector, reports The Nation.

Gwarzo, who praised the House for initiating the Bill, noted that the proposal should have come from the ministry.

The permanent secretary said apart from coming at the right time, the commission, when established, would bring the polytechnics in Nigeria in conformity with their counterparts in other parts of the world.

He said the ministry would support every move aimed at establishing a commission that would maintain standard, assuring that the ministry was ready to assist and ensure the quick passage of the Bill and establishment of the commission.

House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas said the National Polytechnic Commission would be a regulatory body for ensuring standards in all polytechnics nationwide.
