Flash flood renders families homeless in Delta

Victims of the recent flash flood that ravaged some parts of Ute-Okpu Kingdom in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State have called on government at all levels and well-to-do individual to come to their aid.

Speaking on behalf of the victims, Mr. Simon Aliemeke, who now takes refuge at his friend’s house, said they were yet to recover from the devastating effect of the flood, reports Daily Trust.

“This is not the first time we are experiencing the flood. But this year’s own is quite different. it defiled every genuine efforts made to contain its effect,” he said.

According to him, based on past experience, he built a fence round his compound, but the barricade couldn’t withstand the flood from entry his house.

Aliemeke, who was not at home during the ravaging flood, said neighbours rescued his wife and children.

“All our property, including clothes, note books, school uniform and electronics gadgets were swept away,” he said.

He added that he is at the mercy of community member who are providing them with food.

He, however, appealed to the local, state and federal governments to come to their aid.
