The Gateway Games 2024, currently ongoing in Abeokuta, witnessed thrilling performances across multiple disciplines, with Team Kwara, Team Ogun, and others making impressive statements in their respective events.

In volleyball, Team Kwara delivered a dominant display, sweeping Team Katsina 3-0 in straight sets (25-10, 25-19, 25-18), reports The Guardian.

With fluid teamwork and tactical superiority, Kwara has emerged as an early contender for the volleyball title.

Golf in a stroke play male category: In the men’s golf event, Team Ogun and Bayelsa both posted impressive gross scores of 72, but Ogun clinched 1st place after a tense sudden-death playoff.

Team Niger secured 3rd place with a gross score of 76, as anticipation builds for Day Two of the stroke play competition.

In female handball, the host state, Ogun, asserted its dominance, defeating Plateau State 35-25 in a fast-paced and physical encounter.

In the basketball event, Team Rivers showcased superior skills and coordination to overpower Team Bauchi 68-56 in full time. Rivers’ solid defense and sharp shooting proved decisive.

More exciting action is expected in athletics, swimming, boxing, and other events as the National Sports Festival continues in Abeokuta.
