Nigeria’s Glory Edet has added another feather to her cap, becoming the first Nigerian to win the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Despite being sidelined by a knee injury sustained during TP Mazembe’s first-round match against South Africa’s University of the Western Cape on November 9, Edet’s impact resonated as the Congolese side claimed their first-ever title in Morocco, reports Daily Independent.
A 10th-minute penalty converted by Marlene Kasaj Kav sealed a 1-0 victory for TP Mazembe over FAR Ladies, marking a historic moment for Lamia Boumhedi’s team.
Edet, who has undergone surgery for her injury, now boasts two CAF Women’s Champions League medals.
She previously won bronze with Bayelsa Queens in the 2022 edition, where she also made history as the first and only Nigerian named to the Team of the Tournament.
This year, TP Mazembe’s road to glory included a thrilling 3-1 semifinal win over Nigerian champions, Edo Queens after extra time.
As anticipation builds for the 2024 Team of the Tournament announcement, Edet remains a trailblazer, inspiring the next generation of Nigerian footballers with her record-breaking achievements.
