Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has declared open the 2025 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dutse branch, urging stronger ethical standards and quicker justice delivery in the state’s legal system.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Mtown Hotel, Dutse, Namadi commended the NBA for its strict adherence to ethics and professionalism, describing it as a hallmark of the association’s credibility, reports The Nation.

“I am truly delighted and profoundly commend your efforts in promoting the rule of law, ensuring access to justice for all — including the less privileged — and facilitating the smooth dispensation of justice in Jigawa State,” he said.

The governor lauded the theme of the Law Week, Upholding Justice through Ethical Advocacy, as timely and relevant, stressing the need to eliminate practices that hinder justice.

He noted that such events strengthen ethical values within the profession and foster dialogue among lawyers and other key stakeholders in the justice system.

Namadi highlighted government initiatives such as the establishment of Community Law Centres, the introduction of Zauren Sulhu, and plans to expand Citizen Rights Units in judicial divisions.

He urged stakeholders to discharge their duties diligently, reminding them of their accountability.

Earlier, Dutse NBA Chairman, Barrister Mustapha M. Kashim, reaffirmed the branch’s commitment to ethical practices and speedy justice delivery.

He said the association has introduced capacity-building programmes for its members through training and retraining in legal practice across the state.

Kashim commended Governor Namadi for his support and concern for the state’s legal system.
