The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a grandfather, identified as Musa Muhammed, 58, and eight others suspected of trafficking illicit drugs in the state.

The State NDLEA Commander, Mitchel Ofoyeju, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin, said the suspects comprised five males and four females who were allegedly found in possession of assorted illicit substances.

According to him, the nine suspects were apprehended during raids conducted at various drug trafficking hotspots across the state, reports Daily Trust.

He listed the other suspects as Ebere Anthony, 55; Gift Oliseyenum, 31; Boniface George, 27; Muzamilu Mustapha; Faustina Peter, 27; Chucks Odili, 36; Anna Agbona, 17; and Julius Enebuli, 42.

Ofoyeju said the 58-year-old grandfather was arrested with 280 grammes of Cannabis sativa, 35 grammes of Loud and 1.4 grammes of Colorado.

He said Ebere Anthony was arrested with 1.5 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa, while Gift Oliseyenum, 31, was found with 74 grammes of Cannabis sativa, 45 grammes of Loud, 2.5 grammes of Colorado and 4.7 grammes of methamphetamine.

“Boniface George, 27, was found with 195 grammes of Cannabis sativa, while Muzamilu Mustapha was arrested with 40 grammes of Loud and 80 grammes of Cannabis sativa.

“Faustina Peter, 27, and Chucks Odili, 36, were found with 35 grammes of Loud, 10 grammes of Colorado and 0.8 grammes of methamphetamine,” he said.

Ofoyeju added that Anna Agbona, 17, was arrested with 25 grammes of Tramadol, while Julius Enebuli, 42, was arrested with one kilogramme of Cannabis sativa, 65 grammes of Loud and 15 grammes of Colorado.

He emphasised that the fight against drug trafficking remained a top priority for the agency, assuring the public that investigations into drug-related activities and prosecution of suspects would continue diligently in the state.

“These arrests do not only highlight the efforts of law enforcement but also signify the increasing need for community involvement in reporting illicit activities, as the agency continues its mission to rid the society of drug-related issues,” he said.
