Hardship: Address lingering issues to avoid planned protest – IBBN tells Tinubu

The Convener of the Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN), Prophet Dr. Isa El-Buba, has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the lingering issues causing hardship and anger in Nigeria to prevent the planned nationwide protest from August 1 to 10.

Prophet El-Buba, speaking to newsmen in Jos, Plateau State, emphasised that the economy, currently suffering due to the hardship in the country, needs urgent attention and quick intervention from all levels of government, reports Nigerian Tribune.

He advised that more palliatives should be rolled out to cushion the effects of the hardship, alongside an overhaul of the entire economy.

He suggested that the president should cut down the cost of governance, reduce the size of his cabinet, and purge his administration of redundant government officials.

El-Buba, who is also the President of Evangelical Bible Outreach Ministries International (EBOMI), stated that the president must instruct the Ministry of Works to focus on repairing internal roads, especially those that are death traps.

He specifically called for the “sack of all the management teams of NNPC who have wrecked the system,” urging that the president “step on toes, clear all those from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s team, and provide subsidized diesel in the short term to reduce transportation costs for goods.”

In the text of the briefing titled “Request to End Bad Governance (The President Should Write His Name in Gold),” he noted that although Nigerians do not want Tinubu to step down, he should immediately address the bad governance that has plagued the nation for a long time.

He stated, “The president must cut down on government spending, including allowances for the president, governors, and ministers, and stop expenditures on the purchase of jets and vehicles.”

“The president should immediately demonstrate his vision of renewed hope by relieving non-performing ministers and appointing a dedicated team committed to advancing Nigeria.”

“The Ministry of Works should be directed to concentrate on fixing internal roads, particularly those that are dangerous, and should address controllers who are colluding with FERMA and contractors to disadvantage Nigerians.”

“The Ministry of Agriculture should release subsidised fertilizer and high-yield seeds directly to farmers, with proof of farmland. It can engage genuine civil rights groups to monitor the sales.”

“The Ministry of Agriculture should also release foodstuffs to reduce prices, reinstate a corruption-free subsidy regime, and address hunger, starvation, and multidimensional poverty.”
