How my husband made me quit smoking cigarettes — Star actress Toyin Abraham

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 4, 2026 201 Minutes read0

•Actress Toyin Abraham

Actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has disclosed that a warning from her husband, actor Kolawole Ajeyemi, led her to stop smoking cigarettes after their child was born.

Speaking on ‘The Morayo Show’, Abraham described Ajeyemi as a major positive influence in her life.

She said he advised her to stop smoking during her pregnancy and later made it clear that smoking around their child would not be tolerated.

“Kolawole Ajeyemi is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. He lets me be me. I used to smoke cigarettes. I still smoke a vape once in a while. But I stopped smoking cigarettes,” she said.

“My husband told me something when I got pregnant: ‘You know you can no longer smoke.’”

According to her, the warning came after childbirth when Ajeyemi saw her smoking during an outing.

He did not confront her immediately but later insisted that he should never see a cigarette butt around their child, warning that such an incident would end the marriage.

“When I gave birth, we went out, and he saw me smoking; he did not say anything,” she said.

“But he told me that he did not say I should not smoke cigarettes, but he must not see the butt with his child. He warned that anytime he sees such, that would be the end of the marriage,” she added.

Abraham said the warning was decisive in her decision to quit cigarettes, though she noted that she still uses a vape occasionally.

The actress also spoke about how her husband handles her acting career.

She stated that Ajeyemi is mature and does not create problems over her professional roles, including romantic scenes.

She added that she no longer needs kissing roles, explaining that her current career standing means she is not required to do so as she did earlier in her career.

“About kissing in movies, my husband is mature. He is not a boy. He is a man. Most of my colleagues’ wives are comfortable with me. I can do every other thing. But promiscuity is not one of them.

“God has blessed me with a platform now; I do not have to kiss anybody like years past,” she added.
