Ibadan stampede: Court determines bail application today •Ooni’s ex-wife, others may face fresh 18-count charge

Oyo State Government has filed a fresh suit against ex-Queen Naomi Silekunola, the chairman of an Ibadan-based radio station, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat and the principal, Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr Abdulahi Fasasi, at the State High Court.

It was gathered that the suit with charge number 1/05C/2025, was filed on Friday, January 10, reports Nigerian Tribune.

The charges, as reliably informed, borders on conspiracy to commit a felony to wit: murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to commit an offence to wit: criminal negligence and criminal negligence.

The offences were said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, vol II Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The names of the victims as contained in sheet include: Musiliu Sofiayah, (female), eight years; Lekan Salami (male), seven years; Feyikemi Salam, (female), one and a half years; Olaniyan Joshua (male), one and a half years and Lateef Muisiliu (male), eight years.

Others are: Opeyemi Ayomide, (female), four years; Adebayo- Fatimah, (female), four years; Adebayo- Abibat, (female), five years; Adeyanju Taiwo, (female), eight years; Salaudeen Khalid ( male), Anjorin Faridat and, (female),10years; Nahaam Muisiliu (male), 13years and Babatunde Toheeb, (male), 18years.

The charge also said the suspects also “did conspire together to commit a felony to wit: criminal negligence and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code CAP 38, Vol II, Law of Oyo State, 2000.

“Did negligently omit to provide adequate security, crowd control mechanism and medical facilities to prevent stampede at a children funfair programme organised by you and your negligent omission resulted in the death of one Musiliu Sofiat, ‘female, aged eight years and 34 other children and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 and punishable under section. 344 of the Criminal Code 38, VolII Laws of Oyo State, 2000.”

However, counsel to one of the defendants, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, Adekunle Sobaloju (SAN), in a telephone interview with our correspondent, said that he was yet to be served.

According to him, “I only read it online. I am yet to be served.

In another development, Oyo state High Court, sitting in Ibadan, will be ruling on the bail applications filed by the defence counsel today.

Also, the Chief Magistrate Court will be sitting on the same matter.

The two cases will be coming up simultaneously at different courts.
