Indian authorities are embarking on a drive to arrest foreign nationals who are overstaying visa in the country, especially those suspected to be engaging in drug trafficking.
It was gathered that as part of the drive, Narcotics Control Bureau arrested four Nigerians following a bust on a transnational drug trafficking network in Delhi, India, reports The Guardian.
The NCB, however, failed to give the identity of the suspects arrested in the raid that recovered 14.787 kg of Amphetamine, 67.840 kg of Pseudoephedrine, 318 gm of Cocaine and 6 gm of Heroin.
The agency stated that the items are collectively valued at around N2,112,337,420.
It stated that, in association with State/UT Police and Immigration authorities, it is launching fortnight-long nationwide drive campaign Trinetra in September, 2026 to identify such illegally overstaying foreign nationals suspected to be involved in drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, Dwarka District Police detained two Nigerian nationals (including a woman, Aminat Aminu, and a man known by names including Nwakor Paul Chukwuebuka / Cypril Odigbo / Paul Chukwuebuka Okeke) under Operation VISTA 1.0 for overstaying expired visas. Deportation and repatriation orders were issued after verification.
Also in Kolkata, Bidhannagar Police arrested two Nigerian nationals (Nnamdi Jonathan and David Agyei) during a tenant verification drive for staying without valid visas
