Insecurity: Tinubu is clueless, has no solutions – SDP

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 19, 2025 2623 Minutes read0

•Tinubu and bandits

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has observed that the federal government under President Bola Tinubu is clueless on how to stop the killings in parts of the country.

The party lamented that the country’s security architecture is “getting unimaginably demobilised and incapacitated” by murderous non-state actors, reports Saturday Independent.

It said the Tinubu administration has demonstrated that it is “utterly unable to provide any solution to stop the ongoing haemorrhage, as the nation is fast turning to a killing field.”

It called on President Tinubu to rise to the occasion and end the bloodletting.

Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, SDP’s National Publicity Secretary, yesterday regretted that gory sights of the death of hapless citizens have become the order of the day.

Aiyenigba’s remarks, which were contained in a statement, followed the unrestrained massacre of Nigerians by marauding gunmen suspected to be armed Fulani herdsmen.

“The gory sights and heart-wrenching tales of deaths across our national landscape – North and South, in the past weeks, in addition to the hundreds of reported and unreported killings that have been carried out on hapless citizens by the unchecked activities of merchants of death, have sadly become the dispiriting defining features of our national life in recent times, particularly in this last one month.

“Some few weeks ago, the nation was assaulted with mob killing and burning, in Edo territory, by a group of locals, of some fifteen or so citizens who were reported to be ‘hunters’ who were on their way to the north, from a hunting expedition in the Niger Delta area.

“Also, a week ago, over a hundred souls were gruesomely massacred by alleged herders, who not only terminated precious lives but also burnt down scores of houses and left communities in ruins on the Plateau!

“A few hours ago, scores of people were reportedly killed by a new terror group by the name ‘Makmuda’, thereby adding to the gang of murderous groups the nation is presently contending with, further exacerbating our national woes!”

His words, “To worsen the prevailing grave national situation, we appear to be having our national security getting unimaginably demobilised and incapacitated, while the government of the day is inexplicably bereft of any creative idea and utterly unable to provide any solution to stop the ongoing hearmorage, as the nation is fast turning to a killing field.

“Nigeria is worrisomely running out of blood, and life is being gradually taken away from her.

“As a nation, We are being faced with a dare strait of who is to save our people and save our country as citizens continue to live in fear.

“It is worrisome that while all these killings and destruction are going on without any check, politicians are obviously only concerned about the next election, as the race for 2027 is what is obviously preoccupying their minds.

“We need to work to secure the electorate and have a country before elections could come into the picture.

“Now is the time for President Tinubu to act as a leader of great political will and courage of conviction and do the needful to secure the Nigerian people

“As the leader of the country, necessity is laid upon him to secure the citizens, and he has a burden of doing his duty as provided in Section 14 (2)(b) of the Nigerian Constitution, which makes the welfare and security of the people as the primary purpose of government.

“While the SDP is deeply saddened by, and condemns the spate of killings across the country.and mourns the loss of the souls that have been lost, the party reckons that if the fundamental purpose of securing lives and improving the welfare and well-being of the Nigerian people is is not achieved or fulfilled, it could then be safely asserted that there is no government in Nigeria!”
