The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the commencement of data collection for the computation of the State Gross Domestic Product (SGDP), a move aimed at enhancing economic planning and informed policymaking.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, and made available to The Frontier today, the exercise will be carried out by the Akwa Ibom State Bureau of Statistics (AKSBS) in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) under the Fiscal Governance and Institution Project (FGIP). The data collection process is scheduled to run from March 26 to April 18, 2025.
The government has urged businesses, manufacturers, and members of the public to cooperate with enumerators by providing accurate information during the exercise.
The SGDP computation is expected to generate reliable economic data that will support effective economic planning and decision-making in the state.

Governor Umo Eno has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to data-driven governance, emphasising that accurate economic statistics will play a crucial role in shaping policies that drive sustainable growth and development.

The government has called on all stakeholders to support the initiative, noting that robust SGDP statistics will serve as a foundation for economic transformation in the state.
