INSIDE AKWA IBOM TODAY: Gov Eno disburses N401 million empowerment package to over 1,000 beneficiaries in Eket Fed. Constituency

…receives overwhelming endorsement for second term

Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, yesterday, Saturday, August 2, 2025, disbursed a total of N401 million in business support grants to over 1,000 beneficiaries across the four local government areas of the Eket Federal Constituency namely Eket, Esit Eket, Onna, and Ibeno.

The event, which took place during the Eket Federal Constituency Town Square Meeting at the Cenotaph near Eket Township Stadium, also witnessed a resounding endorsement of the governor for a second term by stakeholders, political leaders, and the people of the constituency, who hailed his developmental strides and people-focused leadership.

As part of the empowerment package, N5 million grants were awarded to small and medium-scale business owners, while farmers benefitted from a separate N2 billion agricultural grant initiative.

The disbursement aligns with the governor’s ARISE Agenda, which seeks to deepen grassroots economic development and uplift livelihoods across Akwa Ibom State.

Addressing the large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Governor Eno expressed deep appreciation to the people of the constituency for their steadfast support and reaffirmed his commitment to equitable development. Describing Eket Federal Constituency as “home,” the governor pledged to continue prioritising the growth and wellbeing of its people.

“In just two years, we have executed over 70 projects in this federal constituency alone,” the governor stated. “I remain committed to working closely with all our leaders. And let me be clear — there is no rift between me and my political mentor from this constituency. I remain his political son.”

He also addressed the lingering Stubb Creek Forest issue and announced the constitution of a high-powered committee, which he will personally chair, to develop a lasting solution.

In a joint welcome address, the chairmen of the four local government areas — led by Hon. Akan Tommey of Eket, commended the governor for his visible impact and people-oriented governance.

“Your Excellency, today is a homecoming,” Hon. Tommey said.

“This massive crowd is 100% organic, driven purely by love for your leadership and the remarkable transformation you’ve brought to our communities.”

Multiple speakers, including LGA chairmen, political stakeholders, and community leaders, unanimously pledged their full support for the governor’s re-election in 2027, citing his track record and calling on him to consolidate on his achievements.

Setting the tone for the event, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, described the impressive turnout as proof of the governor’s popularity and the people’s appreciation for his leadership.

“This is an overwhelming show of love and support, Your Excellency,” he said.

The Director General of Government Business, Chief Assam Assam, SAN, led stakeholders to present a NEEDS Document — a development roadmap from the four LGAs — to the governor.

In a goodwill message, elder statesman and former Minister of Lands and Housing, Rt. Hon. Chief Nduese Essien, applauded the governor’s inclusive style and assured him of continued support.

Archbishop Senator Helen Esuene led prayers for the governor, declaring: “You will finish well and finish strong.”

Other dignitaries, including Hon. Sam Ekpenyong (Ibeno), Barr. Dan Abia (Esit Eket), and Hon. Frank Archibong, Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs — praised the governor’s commitment to development and stability.

“You brought development to this constituency even before venturing into politics. We are with you now more than ever,” said Hon. Archibong.

Lawmakers in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, including Dr. Nsidibe Akata (Eket), Hon. Udobia (Esit Eket/Ibeno), and Hon. Sunny Johnny (Onna), also passed a vote of confidence on the governor, commending his outstanding performance in just two years.
