…inaugurates Holy Child Convent Model Primary School

Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno has pledged to ensure that every Akwa Ibom child gets the necessary basic foundation in education as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda blueprint.

The governor made the pledge at the commissioning of the Holy Child Convent Model Primary School in Abak.

Speaking through his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the governor reassured his administration’s commitment to educational advancement in the state.

Eyakenyi, while noting that various people from Abak Federal constituency have benefited from the governor’s empowerment programmes in different fields, said the school currently wears a new look and is conducive for learning.

“As a government, we understand the power of education and in securing a place for the future for our children. Only the future will reveal the main essence of what we are doing today. Our public schools should accommodate both the rich, poor and also compete with other private schools out there,” she said.

She said the children will be provided with free school uniforms, books and other incentives needed for effective learning, and called on the people of Abak to protect the facility and ensure optimal utilisation.

Eyakenyi said the local government council boss has been instructed to employ security for both day and night to ensure that the school environment is conducive and the things procured are safe.

Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Mrs. Ime Charles thanked the governor for his numerous projects in Abak, and most especially for the quality of the structure.

She described the Model Primary School project as a testimony of the government’s commitment to infrastructural development in the state.

Giving an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh, stated that the model school has an ICT Laboratory, fully furnished classrooms, Solar-Powered Electricity, Modern sick bay, an Assembly Hall, a standard Library and staff quarters.

Other facilities, according to him, include, Early Child Care Development Classes (ECCDC), a school field, and a security post that will checkmate the in and out of the pupils.

In a goodwill message, the Head Teacher of Holy Child Convent Model School, Mrs Bridget Udoh said previously, the school building and its environment was not suitable for learning but through the intervention of the governor, history has been made, and it is a testament to the promises made by the state governor to improve on the learning space.

On his part, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah said the people were grateful for the fruit planted in Abak and for accepting the recommendations of the Abak Elders by restoring the history of the institution.

The info boss eulogised the governor by listing various projects in Abak and issued a promise that the entire Abak people will reciprocate his kind gesture.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Itai Afe Annang, Obong Blaise Awakama, praised the governor for delivering the project to Abak, noting that the remodeled school is truly a model for those in the private sector.

Also, the immediate past deputy governor, Mr Moses Ekpo stated that Holy Child Convent Model School is the second oldest primary school in Abak, and applauded the governor for the strides saying, “Abak has too many reasons to swim with him in his administration and we will secure the project with all our strength.”

In a vote of thanks delivered by the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Udeme Otong, he stated that Abak people were ready to support the Umo Eno-led administration, and will work with others to secure a second term in office for the governor.
