INSIDE AKWA IBOM TODAY: Governor Eno pays surprise visit to project sites

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 16, 2025 3551 Minutes read0

•Governor Umo Eno

EDIFON SOLOMON & ANTHONY UDOH, Uyo reporting

Soon after landing at the Victor Attah International Airport, from Yenagoa on a one day visit where he commissioned road project yesterday, Saturday, February 15, 2025, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State paid surprise visits to two major state project sites at the Dakkada Luxury Estate, and the Uyo Convention Center, on Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.

Speaking at the Dakkada Luxury Estate, he said government is committed to ensuring that projects initiated with public funds by previous administrations are made to serve the intended purposes.

He said that the necessary amenities will be put in place to encourage speedy development by plots owners in the Dakkada Luxury Estate, and directed the permanent secretary, Ministry of Lands to ensure completion of the internal road network and street lighting within three months.

The governor decried the indiscriminate fencing by plot owners in the estate and ordered that it be stopped forthwith and reverted to the estate’s master plan to ensure that it is given the intended uniformity.

“Since this place is on the way from the airport, I had to stop to see things for myself. It’s one thing for you to be briefed in the office, but it’s another thing for you to match that briefing with what you see on ground.

“I’ve told the permanent secretary, Ministry of Lands, that we must commission the roads network within the estate in May. We have to finish the street light too, so that people can start moving in. If these amenities are not in place, it would be difficult for people to move in”.

On the issue of indiscriminate raising of fences, he said, “it’s a luxury estate; everybody must follow a pattern, so that the intended ambience and aesthetics would be achieved.”

Also speaking at the Ibom International Convention Center, where he inspected the ongoing site preparation, the governor confirmed that a new contract for a world class conference centre that will be integrated into the abandoned 14-storey hotel project is underway.

He further said that he will sustain his management by developing a strategy to ensure that the original master plan for the facility is realised, for the overall good of Akwa Ibom State.
