INSIDE AKWA IBOM TODAY: LGA chairman hails Gov. Eno on welfare drive as 7,000 bags of food reach vulnerable residents

•Governor Umo Eno

The Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government Area, Obong (Hon) Uyo Ukpanah, has applauded Governor Umo Eno’s dedication to the welfare of vulnerable citizens following the distribution of 7,000 bags of rice and beans to residents of the area.

The exercise, coordinated by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in partnership with the Bulk Purchase Agency, was held yesterday at the Ukanafun Local Government Council Headquarters, Ikot Akpa Nkuk, with beneficiaries drawn from the 13 wards of the area.

Speaking during the event, Ukpanah described the intervention as another demonstration of Governor Umo Eno’s compassionate leadership and dedication to improving the living conditions of ordinary citizens, particularly the poor and vulnerable.

The Council Chairman noted that the food distribution programme, coming shortly after thousands of Ukanafun residents benefited from the Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme, highlights the government’s resolve to ease the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable households.

According to him, the ARISE Agenda continues to deliver measurable benefits across sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, rural development, and social welfare, thereby strengthening public confidence in the administration.

Ukpanah expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for ensuring Ukanafun benefits from the state’s humanitarian programmes and assured that the local government would continue to complement the ARISE Agenda to improve the wellbeing of the people.

He also praised the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Bulk Purchase Agency, and other officials involved in making sure the distribution was transparent and organised.

“Our people have continued to witness a government that is responsive to their needs. This effort clearly shows that Governor Umo Eno is committed to bettering lives and helping vulnerable families across Akwa Ibom State,” Ukpanah said.

He encouraged beneficiaries to use the food wisely and urged residents to consider agriculture as a sustainable way to improve household food security.

Beneficiaries, including widows, elderly persons and persons living with disabilities, expressed gratitude to the state government for the timely intervention, describing it as a much-needed relief to ease the burden of feeding families amid current economic challenges.
