JUST IN: Anxiety at UI as kidnap of female Law student confirmed

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 19, 2026 2541 Minutes read0

•University of Ibadan main gate

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan (UI), has confirmed the abduction of a 300-level female law student, identified simply as Tomisin, and has called for calm as efforts intensified to secure her safe return.

In an official statement issued by the union’s President, Comrade Temidayo Adeboye, Tomisin was reported to have travelled on a religious retreat alongside the National General Director of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Engr. Uwem Cosmos, and eight other participants.

Tomisin serves as the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Nigeria, and is also the Vice President of the Scripture Union, University of Ibadan chapter, reports Vanguard.

The union firmly dismissed reports suggesting that eight University of Ibadan students were missing, clarifying that Tomisin is the only student of the institution currently unaccounted for.

According to Adeboye, the union has “initiated the necessary engagements to ascertain the facts surrounding the situation” and has already established contact with relevant religious organisations and security agencies to facilitate appropriate intervention.

Reports indicated that Tomisin was returning from the Scripture Union National Conference held at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State, when communication with her was lost.

Concerns over her whereabouts heightened after she failed to sit for her faculty examinations on both Monday and Tuesday.

Further reports revealed that another University of Ibadan student from the Department of Music, who also attended the conference, returned safely. However, the vehicle conveying the General Director remained unaccounted for.

Confirming the development, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Ademola Lewis, stated that the university was aware of the incident, although the institution had not been informed beforehand about the trip.

He added that efforts were already underway to ensure the student’s safe return and urged members of the university community to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information that could further inflame the situation.
