JUST IN: Bus catches fire on Third Mainland Bridge, traffic disrupted •VIDEO

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 2, 2026 2840 Minutes read0

A commercial bus has caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos near the UNILAG Waterfront, causing heavy traffic congestion along the busy corridor.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which shared a video of the burning vehicle via its official social media platforms.

According to LASTMA, the fire occurred on the bridge axis inward Oworonshoki, prompting an immediate response from traffic officials to secure the area and manage vehicular movement.

“A bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge. Our officers are on ground managing traffic and ensuring safety,” LASTMA said in a brief update.

Although the cause of the fire has not been officially stated, no casualties were reported as of the time of filing this report.

Motorists were advised to remain calm, follow traffic instructions, and consider alternative routes while recovery operations continued.

The Third Mainland Bridge is one of Lagos’ busiest routes, and incidents along the axis often result in significant traffic congestion.
