JUST IN: Drama as embattled former Governor El-Rufai mentions ADC convention in court

•El-Rufai in court today

There was a mild drama at the Kaduna State High Court, on Monday, as former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai was heard discussing about the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National convention slated tomorrow.

The opposition party has vowed to go ahead with the exercise despite the warning of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to do so, reports Daily Trust.

However, when the former governor who is a chieftain of the ADC arrived the court around 9am, he was heard briefly chatting with one of his loyalists.

El-Rufai who adorned white babbanriga outfit and an ash colour cap was reading from a white paper in his hand as he walked into the courtroom with his lawyers.

“So tomorrow is the Convention, right?” He asked as the loyalist responded “God willing.”

El-Rufai subsequently smiled and walked into the courtroom alongside one of his wives.

Security was tight at the court premises and roads leading to the court.

Recall that the former governor was dragged to the State High court alongside one Amadu Sule on allegations including abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage.

The charges, also filed by the ICPC, are separate from those before the Federal High Court which bail hearing Application will be heard at the Federal High court Kaduna, tomorrow.

The ADC has described El-Rufai’s trial as a witch-hunt, accusing the federal government of targeting opposition leaders.
