JUST IN: Fulani herdsmen invade Cross River communities, destroy farms, injure residents, kidnap youths •I’m not aware – Commissioner of Police

•Armed Fulani herdsmen

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have invaded some communities in Okoyong, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

A source informed The Frontier this evening that the attack by the Fulani herdsmen was ongoing in three communities namely Okoyong Usanga Abasi, Ikot Essien and Atang Mbakara Okoyong.

“I just got a call this afternoon that many youths have been kidnapped,” our source said.

Another source who owns a Nongovernmental Organisation (NGO), confirmed the incident with a video showing a man lying down with knife wounds and blood gushing out from his body saying, “Someone just sent my organisation – Citizens’ Solution Network – this (video). Please the video is gory, please use your discretion.”

One of the community members also told our correspondent, “Fulani herdsmen have destroyed all our crops in the farmlands. When some of us confronted them, they said one Alhaji has paid for everything. Also, the anti-cultist unit of the Police in the state arrested the people in the villages and handed them to the Fulani herdsmen.”

Some residents said they couldn’t go to the farm.

“Fulani herdsmen have taken over the road to our farm,” said a female resident who pleaded anonymity for fear of attack.

It was gathered that for so long, the Fulani herdsmen have been ravaging and invading the people’s farmlands in the villages, destroying their crops.

When The Frontier contacted the state Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, he said he was not aware of the development. He however promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer of Odukpani for information.
