JUST IN: Niger Delta Congress announces date for protest over emergency rule in Rivers

•Tinubu, Fubara and protesters

The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) has announced a planned peaceful protest for Monday, April 7, 2025, in response to the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly.

The protest, scheduled to take place at Isaac Boro Park from 7:00am, aimed to demand the restoration of democratic governance in the state, reports Channels TV.

In a press statement released today, Thursday, April 3, the NDC condemned the declaration of a state of emergency and the suspension of elected officials, calling it an attack on democracy and the people of Rivers State. “These actions undermine the will of the people and threaten the stability of the Niger Delta region,” said Mudlaga Ogboru, the National Spokesperson for the NDC.

The group has urged citizens to join the protest in full compliance with the law, emphasizing unity and justice. “Together, we stand united in our pursuit of justice,” the statement read.

The political crisis in Rivers State has drawn widespread attention, with many questioning the legality and motives behind the suspension of key government institutions. As tensions rise, all eyes will be on Port Harcourt next Monday to see how the demonstration unfolds.
